Common Problem Analysis

Why are bubbles or edge detachment prone to occur during solid wood door edge banding?

Main Cause Analysis

• The moisture content of solid wood door edge material is high >16%;

• The selected edge banding hot melt adhesive parameters do not meet process requirements;

• The edge banding strip is too thick, resulting in high subsequent stress, and the edge banding hot melt adhesive strength cannot withstand the stress changes of solid wood.

Solutions

• Control the moisture content of solid wood door edge material <12%;

• Because wooden doors are thick and long, high requirements are placed on the melting speed, adhesion to solid wood, and heat resistance of hot melt adhesive. Therefore, selecting the appropriate hot melt adhesive product is critical;

• It is recommended that wood door edge banding strips should not exceed 2mm. If using solid wood edge banding strips thicker than 2mm, it is advisable to switch to other processes and adhesive types instead of hot melt adhesive, because the strength cannot withstand the stress changes of solid wood, which may easily lead to later edge detachment.


What methods can achieve fast bonding of wood door decorative moldings without nailing?

Problem Causes and Solutions

• The moisture content of the veneer is too high. After the edge banding tape is left in the air for a period of time, the veneer absorbs moisture. When the glue meets water during edge banding, it cools sharply, shortening the open time of the glue or because the moisture is too high, the veneer has already separated from the non-woven fabric; The traditional method for solid wood door decorative moldings is to bond them with ordinary white glue and fix them with nails, then apply paint, which is time-consuming in the process. If PUR hot melt adhesive 60300 is used, it can be bonded after painting without nail fixing. Because PUR hot melt adhesive has strong initial tack, fast curing speed, good final heat resistance and bonding strength, it is very suitable for improving this process application and enhancing efficiency.
